What is dry ice cleaning?

Dry ice blasting, also known as CO2 cleaning, is an innovative and efficient cleaning technique for industrial applications. This method uses solid carbon dioxide (dry ice) to safely and thoroughly remove contamination. Unlike traditional cleaning methods that use water, detergents or chemicals, dry ice cleaning is completely dry, non-abrasive, non-conductive, and non-toxic. This makes industrial dry ice cleaning particularly suitable for production environments where safety and continuity are paramount.

During dry ice cleaning, small pellets of solid CO2 are blasted at high speed onto the surface to be cleaned using compressed air. This technique, also known as dry ice blasting, works similarly to blasting systems, but without water or media such as sand. When the dry ice pellets hit the surface, they sublimate immediately—they transition directly from solid form to gas. This rapid sublimation creates a thermal and mechanical impact that loosens contamination, leaving no residue or moisture behind. As a result, CO2 cleaning is ideal for cleaning machines, production lines, and electrical installations.
